Welcome to Centre on Budget and Policy, University of Dhaka
The Centre on Budget and Policy is attached with the Department of Development Studies, University of Dhaka working as an independent research, training and policy advocacy institution. Though Centre on Budget and Policy was established in September 2013, it was formally launched in February 2014.
The primary focus of the Centre is on national and local budget, fiscal and monetary policies, macroeconomic issues and priority policies of government. The Centre aims to contribute in the theoretical and empirical understanding of development process in Bangladesh and neighboring countries. The multifaceted nature of development questions demands the research to be interdisciplinary and therefore this Centre engaged a number of faculties from various disciplines. Budget analysis, green growth, poverty alleviation and ICT received special focus in the Centre activities. The Centre intends to produce authoritative materials through these activities that are academic as well as accessible and responsive to issues facing the country.
The centre has been implementing different activities in partnership with The Asia Foundation, Oxfam, World Vision, Care Bangladesh, Action Aid Bangladesh, University of Oxford etc. In association with these development organizations the center has successfully completed some significant research works on the issues of economic development, food security, agriculture, climate change, disaster management, health, women development etc. Since its inception, the center has organized pre-budget and post-budget seminars and produced analytical documents on different development related issues which might be considered as remarkable achievements of the Center on Budget and Policy.
